Sabbatical has ended and the fall semester is about to start. Classes — all of my classes are online — open Saturday at midnight. It is crunch time.
Still, I decided to finish a presentation I’d been thinking about for a long time. It’s a presentation that makes the argument to students to use their human intelligence and not any artificial intelligence in my classes.
I made the presentation in Padlet and then used ScreenPal (formerly Screencast-o-matic) to record my voice going through the presentation. I will make both links to the Padlet and the video available to my students and I make them available to you all, publicly.

As I say in the presentation, I invite comments. Have strong opinions about AI in higher ed? Is there something you’d like to hear more about? Should I remake it without the voice-over recording (that is, remake it as a wholly written-out presentation)?
I want to thank
for sharing her HI logo and encouraging us to use it and encouraging others to create many other similar beautiful logos. I wanted to use the original in my presentation; I’m a historian, after all. I am proud to use the logo.
I retired from teaching eight years ago, and that is enough time to observe any cultural shifts in the thinking of students. But what I find so masterful in your presentation is that it obviates any need to address current zeitgeist and drives right to the heart of what students need to know. You are their guide on a journey of personal development. You respect their intelligence and intellects and ask them to respect themselves and their own ability to flourish. This is super! I hope it lands well with your new groups of students. I hope they draw inspiration. You have certainly opened a clear path for them!
